* In an emergency, those who are trained in CPR can make the difference between those to whom first responders make it in time and those they do not. In rural areas, if a cardiac emergency occurs emergency responders could be 30 to 45 minutes away. The more people who know CPR, the better the outcomes from sudden cardiac arrest can be, said Michelle Loehr, executive director of West Virginia/Blue Ridge Virginia region for the American Heart Association. That’s why a grant to the AHA from the Highmark West Virginia Charitable Fund for Health is so important. With the $110,000 awarded last week, the AHA can further its public awareness campaign about CPR. “We are proud to once again partner with Highmark West Virginia for this important and, potentially lifesaving, campaign,” Loehr said. We are fortunate to have such wonderful community partners working toward that goal.

The Wood County Board of Education recently purchased 31.23 acres of land in Washington, W.Va. This property was purchased to build the new Lubeck Elementary School. This purchase was an extremely irresponsible financial decision by the Wood County Board of Education. The price for this piece of property was $755,000. You would think with such a large purchase and price tag, the Wood County Board of Education would have at the very least had an appraisal done to make sure they are paying a fair price for the property.
