WILLINGTON, Conn. (WTNH) — Connecticut State Troopers responded to a distress call reporting that a man physically assaulted and held a woman against her will.

The man was identified as Jonathan Yokabaskas, 29, of Granby. He faces multiple charges, including possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, breach of peace, assault, threatening, kidnapping, and unlawful restraint.

Troopers located Yokabaskas inside a vehicle in the parking lot. He initially resisted verbal commands but was eventually detained without incident. Police made contact with the woman , who had visible injuries to her face and hands.

Based upon initial findings, it was determined that the incident met the criteria of a family violence crime.

According to the woman, she had been visiting Yokabaskas, who was living in a tent, located in a wooded area off of Ruby Road. Soon after, they got into an argument, during which Yokabaskas threatened her life and prevented her from leaving by physically forcing her to the ground.

She later explained that while attempting to leave a second time, Yokabaskas struck her in the face, again forced her to the ground, and bound her wrists with rope, which she later convinced Yokabaskas to remove.

In the hours that followed, Yokabaskas threatened to kill her and held a knife against her throat several times. Around 8:00 a.m., she convinced Yokabaskas to allow her to use the restroom at a nearby business and the victim drove to the business accompanied by Yokabaskas.

When arriving at the business, she explained that Yokabaskas remained inside of her vehicle while she went inside. Once inside, she contacted a family member and explained what had happened. The family member then called 911.

While on-scene, Troopers asked Yokabaskas about what had happened and Yokabaskas replied that he and the woman had been involved in a fight. When asked if he had a knife, Yokabaskas acknowledged that he had one but that it was not currently on him.

During the investigation, a knife was found in the car Yokabaskas was in, leading to additional charges against him. Yokabaskas was then arrested and transported to Troop C for processing.

Yokabaskas was held on a $250,000 bond pending his arraignment at Rockville Superior Court scheduled for May 9.

The woman was provided with medical assistance and transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.
