I-229 Double Decker Bridge back open in St. Joseph
After the completion of maintenance and the biannual bridge inspection the double decker bridge on Interstate 229 on the west side of St. Joseph has been reopened. Along with the bridge all ramps between U.S. Route 36 and Highland Avenue were also reopened on Wednesday, September 30th. The bridge was reopened early due to the weather. Crews do plan to return the week of October 12th thorough the 16th to complete inspection of the on and offramps. More information, including ramp closure timing, will be shared by the Missouri Department of Transportation once it becomes available.

Gas station owner says flooding fix is temporary as rain threat returns
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The gas station at 23rd and Topping flooded for the fifth time four months ago. Since then, the owner says he has lost half of his business. Khurram Javed, owner of the gas station, said a nearby property owner dug a six-foot drainage trench across the road, which is currently helping drain water away from the station. Javed said the trench is not a permanent solution.

Interstate 229 Double-Decker Bridge closure begins Monday
ST. JOSEPH, Mo - The double-decker bridge on Interstate 229 in St. Joseph is set to close Monday at 6:30 am for its biannual inspection. The bridge and all ramps between U.S. Route 36 and Highland Avenue will be closed through 9 am on Friday, October 2nd to allow crews to perform the inspection. MoDOT engineers will inspect the bridge, maintenance crews will complete general bridge and sign maintenance, and electricians will make lighting repairs.

Kansas City monorail ballot measure put on hold
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Kansas City’s City Council was set to send a monorail transit plan to voters Thursday, but the measure was pulled back at the last minute. Mayor Quinton Lucas said the council held off on voting because the ballot language submitted by the petition committee contained typos and unclear wording. The city’s legal team is working with Clay Chastain, representing the committee of petitioners, to fix the language before it goes to voters.

Local farmer explains impact of increase in diesel, fuel prices
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- While regular gas prices across the United States continue to rise, so do diesel prices. According to Triple A's website, the current price for diesel is $6.34 a gallon. Farmers are now entering harvest season and are seeing different prices than from a year ago. In Sept. of 2025, the price for a gallon of diesel was $3.42. That makes it a nearly $3 difference in a year long span.
