Lanier County sweeps Bowdon, earns trip to state championship
BOWDON, Ga. (WALB) - It’s been more than 40 years since the Lanier County Bulldogs baseball team has made the final four. Friday night they looked to build on their success needing two wins to secure their spot in the state championship. The Bulldogs are a young team with just four seniors on the roster. They made the four and a half hour trip north to take on the Bowdon Red Devils.
Softball Game Preview: Mt. Zion Hits the Road
Mt. Zion is 4-0 against Meridian since March of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Mt. Zion Braves will head out on the road to challenge the Meridian Hawks at 4:00 p.m. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Softball Recap: Brantlee Wortham and Gracie Robinson secure win for Randolph County
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Randolph County had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Greensboro Raiders a 15-0 shutout. Considering Randolph County has won 18 matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Getting to Know the Newest DI Programs: Mercyhurst, West Georgia Join FCS in 2024
The FCS is ever in flux. On Friday this last week the news broke that Missouri State is leaving for the FBS and Conference USA in a year’s time. This comes not that long after Kennesaw State announced a similar move that goes into place this season. There aren’t just teams hitting the exit door, though. Effective July 1 a pair of new squads will be joining the subdivision as well. The Mercyhurst Lakers and the West Georgia Wolves will become the newest Division I football members later this summer.
Tennessee offers 2026 wide receiver Ryan Mosley
Tennessee offered a scholarship to 2026 wide receiver prospect Ryan Mosley. “Extremely grateful and blessed to receive an offer from the University of Tennessee,” Mosley said. The 6-foot-2, 175-pound wide receiver prospect is from Carrollton High School in Carrollton, Georgia. There are not recruiting rankings currently for Mosley from Rivals, 247Sports, On3 or ESPN. The Vols are the sixth Southeastern Conference school to offer Mosley. Texas A&M was the first SEC school to offer a scholarship to the wide receiver on Nov. 1, 2023.
