Vehicle fire on I-64 in Hampton
HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A vehicle fire on Interstate 64 eastbound near Mercury Boulevard has closed the right lane and shoulder Thursday evening, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation. The vehicle fire took place at mile marker 262.7, and VDOT said drivers can expect delays in the area.
Union for Newport News shipyard workers backtracks on calls for on-site coroner
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The union representing 10,000 workers at the Newport News shipyard is backtracking on their call for their employer to hire an on-site coroner. USW Local Union 8888 spokesperson Dwight Kirk said in an e-mail Wednesday that the group is no longer claiming that unreported deaths affected victims' families' eligibility for death benefits.

Sailor dies during training at Naval Weapons Station Yorktown
YORKTOWN, Va. (WAVY) — A U.S. Navy sailor died during a training exercise on Sunday night at Naval Weapons Station Yorktown. The Navy shared few details in a release on Monday, but said NWS Yorktown was conducting security boat training and familiarization on the York River at the time. The sailor fell overboard around 8:05 p.m., and injuries sustained during that fall were fatal, the Navy says.
