South Coast Head Start is accepting applications for our FREE preschool and Early Head Start program for qualifying families for the 2024-2025 program year! We offer a fun, researched-based curriculum; free and healthy meals; and child development, nutrition, and health screenings with follow-up support for all enrolled children. The Curry County Sheriff’s Office 911 Dispatch received information from the Brookings Police Dispatch, of a call from a person who had been hiking the coastal trail near Natural Bridges, about twelve miles north of Brookings, at approximately 2:35 p.m. Sunday April 21. Larry moved to Brookings with his parents George and Ethel Hannan in 1951, arriving in their Model A from Myrtle Creek, OR. His father George had purchased a share of Brookings Plywood Mill. The family lived in a two-room tent for one year in Harbor, while George built their family home on which later became Hannan Lane. Coos County total payroll employment rose by 130 jobs in March
Job gains were small but dispersed among several industries. Those adding jobs included leisure and hospitality; transportation, warehousing, and utilities; and retail trade, each adding 20 jobs over the month. Manufacturing employment declined by 20 jobs in March. Government employment increased by 50 jobs in March with jobs added in local (+30), state (+10), and federal government (+10).
