GIRARD, Ohio (WKBN) – The owner of a dog who police say was left behind in a home that was “the epitome of deplorable” is facing a criminal charge.

Body of missing person found in local park

A misdemeanor cruelty to animals charge was filed against Lisa Drummond in Girard Municipal Court. Drummond is scheduled to be arraigned on May 14.

Drummond was charged after officers spotted a “visibly emaciated and lethargic” dog through the window of the home on W. Second Street in Girard where she used to live on Monday.

According to a police report, Drummond told officers that she planned to take the dog to the pound and that she had left it there for “quite a while.”

A witness told police that it had been at least a month since anyone had been at the house consistently, saying Drummond and a man showed up periodically to remove items from the house but always left the dog behind.

Drummond told police that she moved to North Jackson but would not provide an address, the report stated.

Police said when they did get into the home, they found food scraps, overturned furniture and feces covering every floor of the room.

The Healthy Hearts and Paws Project is currently caring for the animal.
