Southeast Missouri wildfires burn nearly 1000 acres
Firefighters in southeast Missouri battled a pair of large wildfires that burned nearly a thousand acres of national forest on Wednesday. According to Mark Twain National Forest personnel, the Beason Hollow Fire was part of a cluster of six fires located 15 miles southwest of Salem and 50 miles northwest of Poplar Bluff. The fire was expected to reach about 650 acres in size by the end of the day. Meanwhile the Barn Log Fire, located 10 miles south of Winona, Missouri, burned about 230 acres by nightfall.
