A full “hunter’s moon” will soon peak over Pennsylvania, along with an upcoming meteor shower from Halley’s Comet. The Orionid meteor shower will peak Wednesday night into Thursday morning, according to NASA. “The Orionids are created by tiny pieces of debris left behind by Halley’s Comet . They appear to radiate from the direction of Orion, but the meteors can streak across any part of the sky,” NASA reports. While the moon’s bright waxing gibbous phase may interfere with fainter meteors, early predawn hours Thursday should offer darker viewing conditions, making it the best time to see the shower , according to Forbes. Just a few days after the Orionids’ peak, a full hunter’s moon will peak over Pennsylvania. The hunter’s moon is the moon following the harvest moon , and it gets its name from the tradition of hunting and preparing meat for winter this time of year, according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac. The almanac uses Indigenous moon names, along with monikers with Colonial American and European sources. When will the hunter’s moon peak over Pennsylvania?
