Commissioner Goehring Approves Grant for Drone Detection of Harmful Weeds in Local Sugar Beet and Soybean Fields
Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring has approved a $274,100 grant. The grant is for a project that uses drones to detect harmful weeds in North Dakota's sugar beet and soybean fields. The project will take place in the 2024 growing season in four counties: Traill, Cass, Richland, and Barnes. These counties have previously reported Palmer amaranth, a harmful weed.

Sisseton advances four boys and two girls to State A Wrestling Tournament
The Sisseton Boys Wrest-ling Team took four boys to the State A Tournament on Feb. 22-24 in Sioux Falls. Two Sisseton Boys wrestlers took first place in their weight class at the Region 3A Wrestling Tournament held in Pierre on Saturday, Feb. 17, and two others placed. Kayden Tchida took first at 113 lbs,, Holden Hawkins took first at 144 lbs, Ian Metz took second at 126 lbs., and Blake Steiner took fourth at 120 lbs.

HOUSE FIRE TOTAL LOSS IN RICHLAND COUNTY
At appx. 1732 hrs, Richland County 911/Communications Center received a call of a house on fire at 5590 Hwy #18, NW Richland County. Kindred Fire Department responded to the scene and discovered a residence with flames emanating from most of the 1-story home. Due to the advanced stage of the fire, assistance from other Fire Departments were requested to provide water resources, personnel and apparatus. Firefighters were able to rescue a small dog from the structure and safely return it to the owner. As of this release, the fire is extinguished, and fire personnel are monitoring hot spots. Kindred Fire Department will be the lead agency for investigation of the source of ignition. Agencies responding: Kindred Fire Department, Kindred Ambulance, Leonard Fire Department, Colfax Fire Department, Davenport Fire Department, Walcott Fire Department, Richland County Sheriff’s Office, and Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
