Man Sentenced for Being a Felon in Possession of a Gun
(WNY News Now) – A 24-year-old man has been sentenced for the crime of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, according to U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross. Buffalo – Michael Alan Jones, 24, previously convicted of two felony crimes in Alamance County, North Carolina, has been sentenced to time served (10 months) by U.S. District Judge David G. Larimer. Jones, legally barred from possessing firearms and ammunition due to his prior convictions, was found in possession of a semiautomatic rifle and ammunition in the Town of Leroy, Genesee County, on March 19, 2022, near Route 33 and Griswold Road and School Road.

From the Genesee County Sheriff: A homeless man, 46-year-old Warren Cotton, was arrested in Stafford and is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was allegedly in possession of methamphetamine. Sheriff Deputies and State Police located a disabled vehicle on Route 33 in relation to a separate complaint where Cotton was a passenger, and found they had active warrants for his arrest. Cotton is now held at the Genesee County Jail pending arraignment. ALSO: 44-year-old Tony Graber of Marilla, New York has been charged with burglary and criminal contempt. He was arrested following a domestic incident in the Town of Batavia. Graber allegedly violated a full stay away order of protection. He’s being held without bail and is due back in Town Court at a later date.

Dances for adults with developmental disabilities return in Byron
BYRON — The Genesee County Dances for Adults with Developmental Disabilities that ended in 2016 are coming back to the Byron Fire Hall. The first dance will be a Halloween Dance on Oct. 19, almost exactly seven years from the date of the last dance, the Byron Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary said in a news release. People are encouraged to wear their costumes and prepare for a fun-filled evening.
GCEDC to examine ‘next generation’ of manufacturing parks
BATAVIA — The industrial parks in the county are starting to fill up, with the Genesee County Economic Development Center starting to look elsewhere for land. There are four parks in which over 87% of the buildable acres have been sold or are in use by projects, GCEDC leaders said during a tax base analysis presented to the county Ways and Means Committee. In six other parks, more than 67% of six of the parks is in use for projects or has been sold.
Orleans County doubles down on pipeline opposition
County Legislature affirms its support of a lawsuit that's intended to stop construction of a sewage pipeline that would discharge into Oak Orchard Creek. Orleans County lawmakers, already engaged in a legal battle over a wastewater pipeline for a major Genesee County industrial park, adopted a resolution on Tuesday that solidified the county’s position, further entrenching the government against the neighboring economic development agency.
YWCA names new director
The YWCA of Genesee County Board of Directors has completed its search for a new executive director. Jamie Beedham-Rada will start Oct. 9 in the executive director position. “The staff and board are excited to work with Jamie and look forward to growing the programs of the YWCA,” Board President Christi Waldron said in a news release. “The board would like to thank Millie Tomidy-Pepper once again for all she has done for the YWCA over the last five and a half years.”
