Gary man, 22, gets 13 years for shooting man in leg at gas station
A Gary man was sentenced to 13 years Thursday for shooting a man in the leg inside a gas station, court records show. It started as a fight with friends on Aug. 22, 2020, that spiraled into a deadly shooting. Roy C. Akins III, now 22, signed a plea agreement in March admitting to aggravated battery, a Level 3 felony. He faced up to 16 years. He was the last defendant sentenced in the case. ...

The mayors of the Region's two largest cities are trying to crack down on vandalism. On social media, Hammond Mayor Tom McDermott Jr. said he's closing the Martin Luther King Park basketball courts, after the courts' benches were vandalized for a second time in two weeks. Indiana man dies after single-vehicle crash in Sanilac County
SANILAC COUNTY, Mich. (WJRT) - A 58-year-old man from Gary, Indiana, died after he went across a Sanilac County roadway and crashed into a ditch Monday afternoon. The Sanilac County Sheriff's Office says the driver was heading south on Wildcat Road near Wellman Line Road in Worth Township around 4:45 p.m., when he went across the center line and into the ditch.
