Ballston Spa fire leaves five without a home
Ballston Spa, NY (WRGB) — Five people, four adults and a 15-year-old, are without a home after an overnight fire in Ballston Spa. According to the Ballston Spa Fire Department, around 12:30 a.m. Friday morning, firefighters responded with Malta Ridge Volunteer Fire Company, Ballston Spa Police Department and Community Emergency Corps to a reported structure fire at 2 Kaleen Dr. in the Village of Ballston Spa. Upon arrival, a well-involved structure fire, but all residents were reported out of the building and the homeowner advised, but there still 3 cats inside the residence.
Schenectady man sentenced for leaving scene of fatal Ballston crash
The Schenectady man who left the scene of a fatal crash in Ballston in November was sentenced Wednesday to 1 1/3 to 4 years in prison. Gary A. Lucas, 38, was driving to work on Nov. 15 just before 5:45 a.m., when he struck Meredith Hamilton near the Valero gas station at the intersection of Route 50 and Brookline Road.
Amsterdam man gets up to 11 years in prison for robbing two ice cream shops
An Amsterdam man was sentenced Friday to up to 11 years in prison for robbing two Saratoga County ice cream shops. Daniel P. McKay, 41, had previously admitted that on Sept. 3, he entered both the Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Shop in downtown Saratoga Springs and the Stewart’s Shops in Malta just off the Northway. McKay implied he had a weapon and demanded cash from the register, the Saratoga County District Attorneys’ Office said. McKay did not actually have a weapon.
Nine teens arrested in connection with Amsterdam High School fight
Police have arrested nine teens in connection with Monday’s large fight at Amsterdam High School. The fight broke out around 8:40 a.m. The juveniles are all male and range in age from 14 to 16 years old. Six are facing misdemeanor assault charges and three were charged with disorderly conduct, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
