Carroll boys. girls sweep Galax in tennis

Carroll County’s boys’ tennis team is now 3-1 after a 9-0 sweep of Galax on April 17.

The Cavaliers won the top three singles matches by scores of 8-0, with Carroll’s Jabin Talley, Ethan Richardson and Paul Marshall winning at the No. 1, 2 and 3 seeds, respectively.

Phoenix Baker cruised to an 8-1 victory at No. 4 singles for Carroll, Garrison Wheatley claimed victory at No. 5 by a score of 8-3, and No. 6 Louis Marshall prevailed 8-2 over his Maroon Tide opponent.

Carroll also swept through doubles’ action with No. 1 Talley and Richardson winning 8-0, No. 2 Wheatley and Baker prevailing 8-1, and Paul and Louis Marshall winning 8-0 at No. 3.

Carroll County’s girls’ tennis team also swept Galax 9-0 to move to 2-0 on the season.

The Lady Cavs’ top seed, No. 1 Emma Vernon, won 8-5 and Carroll’s No. 2, Erika McKenzie, claimed an 8-2 victory. Alexis Boatman cruised to an 8-0 triumph at No. 3.

Khloe Akers kept the Cavalier momentum going at No. 4 as she won 8-1. Maiya Caudill triumphed 8-4 at No. 5 and Tiffany Cruise won 8-2 at No. 6.

Vernon and McKenzie teamed for an 8-3 win at the No. 1 doubles, while Boatman and Akers took an 8-6 decision at No. 2. Caudill and Cruise rounded out the sweep of Galax with an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles.
