With the Alabama high school soccer playoffs starting on Thursday for Class 6A and everyone else starting next week, its time to look at the top five boys and girls teams at the end of the regular season.

The rankings will pause during the playoffs, as there wouldn't be much change and a top five will be released after the state tournament.

Here's the top-5 teams, regardless of class in the Gadsden area, for results through April 16:

Gadsden Times boys soccer top 5

1. Southside (23-2-1)

Last week: 1, 2-1

Why: The Panthers took home the area crown and should be one of the favorites to make it to Huntsville for the state tournament.

2. Guntersville (21-3-1)

Last week: 2, 1-1

Why: Guntersville took home the area crown, but a loss to Crossville isn't the direction a team wants going into the playoffs.

3. Susan Moore (16-3-3)

Last week: 3, 1-1-1

Why: The Bulldogs picked up a tie against Gadsden City, proving how close they were in the rankings. The Bulldogs look to be the class of 1A-3A and should be a favorite to make the state tournament.

4. Gadsden City (16-4-2)

Last week: 3, 0-0-1

Why: These two teams were tight in the rankings and a tie on the field proves that, the Titans finished second in the area and will travel in the first round on Friday.

5. Boaz

Last week: 5, 1-1

Why: The Pirates made the playoffs, but clearly are the second best team coming out of their area after another loss to Guntersville.

Other teams considered: Westbrook Christian (12-12-1), Collinsville (15-5-1), Glencoe (16-8)

Gadsden Times girls soccer top 5

1. Southside (22-6)

Last week: 1, 2-0 record

Why: Southside responded well to finishing second in area with a beat down of Douglas and then a strong showing vs. Lincoln.

2. Guntersville (20-3-2)

Last week: 2, 2-0

Why: The Wildcats own the area going 10-0 and joined their boys counterparts in being area champs. A four--game winning streak provides the momentum into the playoffs.

3. Jacksonville (17-3-2)

Last week: 3, 1-0-1

Why: A five-game unbeaten streak has the Eagles surging into the playoffs.

4. Gadsden City (11-5-2)

Last week: 5, 1-0

Why: The Titans are riding a four-game winning streak into the playoffs, a long way off their 7-5-2 record earlier this month as they took the area crown.

5. Westbrook Christian (12-4-3)

Last week: 4, 0-0-0

Why: The Warriors will start the playoffs on Tuesday with White Plains.

Other teams considered: Collinsville (14-6-1)
