Man charged in fatal shooting of Battle Creek Central football standout pleads no contest
A Battle Creek man has pleaded no contest in the fatal shooting death of Battle Creek Central graduate and football standout Christopher Williams. Cameron Anthony James, 21, pleaded no contest in Calhoun County Circuit Court April 30 to a reduced charge of second-degree murder in the July 11, 2022 fatal shooting of Williams.

Today, my husband Joe has an appointment with the doctor that did his surgery last week. Joe has been off work for a week due to getting a splinter in his hand as long as a toothpick while at work. He went to the hospital after it happened, and they couldn’t find it through the X-ray. Joe stayed home from work for a few days because his hand hurt so bad and kept swelling up. Joe doesn’t usually complain much if he gets a splinter, but this time he had a lot of pain.

For Michigan school staff training to be teachers, new grant helps break barriers
KALAMAZOO, MI -- A new Western Michigan University grant is breaking barriers that have prevented public school staff members from earning teaching degrees. The state of Michigan’s Grow Your Own (GYO) program opened an expedited path for school staff members in Michigan to receive teaching degrees, but obstacles like finances persisted. A new $24,400 grant from Western Michigan University will allow select GYO students at WMU to take paid summer internships to help teach summer school at the schools they’re employed at.
