STORM ALERT WEATHER 3 FORECAST: Sunny, seasonal weekend
Breezy northwest winds have returned and will remain around 10-15 MPH throughout the afternoon. Despite these north winds, temperatures have thrived under the mostly sunny skies with temperatures popping into the low 80s. Dew points continue to slowly drop and skies will clear by tonight. Overnight lows will drop back near 60°.

Tracking storm chances Tuesday – Thursday
What was looking to be more of a quiet period across our area this week has quickly trended a bit more active, which is a transition we are far too familiar with this summer. However, rain chances over the next few are not of the washout variety, and may not even impact everyone. Isolated to […]

STORM ALERT WEATHER 3 FORECAST: Sct'd storms Tuesday PM, severe threat upgraded
Sunshine should start increase this afternoon, allowing temperatures to peak in the upper 70s. A cold front is located in central Minnesota and continues to slowly slide southeast. This boundary could spark scattered thunderstorm development by mid-afternoon. These storms could become rather perky at times in an increasingly unstable environment, which is why the Storm Prediction Center has upgraded those south of the I-90 corridor to a higher possibility of severe storms. Damaging wind gusts of 60 MPH and up to golf ball size hailstones are possible from 3 PM to 8 PM Tuesday. Once the front slides south, the severe threat will diminish.

A quieter week ahead, with less humidity & more sunshine
Last week was sort of the pits…very little sunshine, persistent shower chances that were hard to predict, and a lot of humidity. This week, luckily, is shaping up to be a bit different, though there are still a few rain chances to keep things a bit more interesting at times.

Clouds & precipitation chances hang around Friday
It wouldn’t be a proper end to the workweek without either beautiful weather or copying the weather we have seen so much of this week and today, we’ll be settling for the second option. Showers and thunderstorms have been firing across Southern Iowa and lifting north, and will likely make it to our Northern Iowa […]

STORM ALERT WEATHER 3 FORECAST: Morning rain, afternoon scattered showers Thursday
Clouds have returned as overspreading rain and embedded rumbles have arrived along the I-35 corridor this morning. No severe weather is anticipated from this round of precipitation. Roads will be wet during the morning commute, so add several minutes to your morning routine! Steady rain is expected through much of Thursday morning before precipitation becomes more scattered in the afternoon. Overcast conditions will break, allowing for a few peeks of sunshine for the back half of Thursday. Around 0.25 to 0.50" of rain is expected with localized higher totals of up to 0.75" along the HWY 18 corridor where embedded storms may produce higher rainfall rates. Aside from a few rain showers, the last Thursdays Downtown and Thursdays on Main will go off without a hitch. That cannot be said about the first day of the Iowa State Fair as scattered thunderstorm threats plague Des Moines.

Stronger storms possible this morning, unsettled for some of us through late week, remaining muggy
After a few storms tracking through this morning, rain has long since exited the area, though there is a good degree of cloud cover lingering north of I-90 as we trek into the early afternoon. Much of the viewing area will see continued sunshine through the afternoon, though locations closer to Rochester and Owatonna may stay cloudy much of the day.

Hazy sunshine, summer warmth to wrap up the weekend, a couple opportunities for more rain ahead
After a stormy start to Sunday, we’re getting a decent dose of sunshine and summer warmth going into Sunday evening. A smoky haze remains overhead as wildfire smoke from the Pacific Northwest continues to get blown our way by the jet stream. The majority of the smoke remains high enough in the atmosphere to avoid air quality issues, but we’ll catch the occasional whiff of smoke.
