Rain moves in Saturday morning, a bit more unsettled going into next week
After a nice, warm, and quiet finish to the week, our rain chances are on the increase going into this weekend. A complex of showers and thunderstorms will be moving in from the west late tonight into early Saturday morning. As it does, it will be weakening along the way, but there are still likely to be some rumbles of thunder along with the occasional downpour. Warm weather leads to large turnout at Shooter’s Roundup
The population of Morristown Township temporarily increased about tenfold over the weekend as thousands of gun enthusiasts flocked to Ahlman’s Gun Shop to participate in its 34th annual Shooter’s Roundup event. April Ahlman, who was working at the front gate, said past shows have drawn estimates of about 5,000 people attending the event, and said the 2026 rendition may surpass that given the large turnout thanks to favorable late-August weather. Andrew Fasching, of Owatonna, and his father, Ken, are regular attendees at the event and were reenacting U.S. Army soldiers with the 105th Engineer Combat Battalion of the 30th Infantry Division. Along with other unit members, passersby got an opportunity to visit a WW2 tent filled with era-correct equipment while learning about the different aspects of serving in an engineer battalion. “This is a great event. Getting into this usually starts with something simple — like buying an $80 bayonet because of the history behind it. Then you start wanting to learn more, and buy more, and it ends up like this,” said Andrew Fasching, as he looked to the tent filled with WW2-era items. Fasching was talking to bystanders about mine-detection tactics used by soldiers during the time period.
