STORM ALERT WEATHER 3 FORECAST: Clouds, showers return Thursday
Clouds are streaming in out of the west ahead of our next round of precipitation Thursday afternoon and evening. Light southeast winds Wednesday night have allowed temperatures to fall to only the low 50s for many, which is about 10 degrees higher than yesterday. Some have managed to drop to the upper 40s. Temperatures are slated to peak in the mid 60s as south winds pulling in warmth under a thick cloud deck Thursday afternoon.

In the eye of the storm: Jim Reed shares storms through a camera lens
Jim Reed, National Geographic photographer, shared his journey over decades of storm chasing at the Giants of the Great Earth Heritage Center in Spring Grove on Sept. 10. The room of 80 people sat captivated as the Argus freelance photographer shared tales of capturing photos from over 300 storms and showed his favorite photos from his 10 years in Houston County. It all started when he was 8, when he and his mother drove through the outer bands of Hurricane Camille near Mississippi while returning from a Florida vacation. Reed studied filmmaking at the University of Southern California and worked in Hollywood, but it was when he went to Wichita, Kansas, to research a possible screenplay that his love for weather came back. “I became a professional filmmaker, writer, photographer, and I quickly realized that all of the productions that we were doing were getting increasingly interrupted by the weather,” Reed said. “I finally just got fed up with it, and I decided to turn my camera up to the sky.” His interest in storm chasing came about after he read an article about it in the Los Angeles Times while still living in California. September 18-20 rainfall summary
Portions of our viewing area saw truly astounding rainfall accumulations from a round of storms that swept through the area on the evening of September 18 that lead to flooding of rivers, creeks, roads, basements, and nearly the entire town of New Richland, MN. Additional light rain fell throughout the weekend of September 19-20 as flood water gradually receded. Below is a brief summary of the event:

Local law enforcement reported ongoing flooding across the area after 4 to 8 inches of rain fell overnight. Residents are urged to stay alert, avoid flooded roads and monitor changing conditions throughout the day.
