Proposed budget posted and presented
HENDERSON — It’s officially budget season at the city. Finance Director Tony Fuqua presented the proposed budget at the City Council meeting on Monday. Regional water rates are likely to increase in Henderson, Oxford and Warren County in order to pay off the debt the latter owes on the Kerr Lake Regional Water System.

Oxford hires new DDC director
OXFORD — The Kerr-Tar Council of Governments Regional Program Coordinator Kenia Gomez-Jimenez is trading in her title for one just a touch shorter. Starting next Monday, she’ll be the city of Oxford’s new downtown development director, taking over from Alyssa Blair, the former director who left for Franklin County economic development in January.
Baseball Game Recap: Bunn Takes a Loss
Bunn and Greene Central squared off in some playoff action on Monday, but Bunn had to settle for second. They fell 5-1 to the Greene Central Rams. For Greene Central's part, Austin Hardy spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 13 Ks. Hardy has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts every time he's pitched this season.
Vipers hold Green vs. Black Spring Game
HENDERSON — Last week, the Vance County Vipers hosted a Spring Game scrimmage during the football team’s off-season. The self-scrimmage was between the Black Team and the Green “Smoney” Team, with the former being mostly offensive starters, led by star quarterback Jayvion “Juice” Vines-Holder; and the latter made up of the defensive starters anchored by three-star recruit Taeshawn Alston — who only played three games last year, missing most of the season with a shoulder injury.
