The 2023-2024 Ski and Snowboard Season Has Arrived in the Southeast
Thank a snowmaker this morning, because the ski and snowboard season in the southeast is officially underway. Sugar Mountain announced this morning that it will open for the season at 9 a.m., making it the first ski area in the region open for business. Easy Street, Northridge, Switchback, Upper and Lower Flying Mile, and the Magic Carpet area will all be skiable, and its six-person Summit Express chairlift is spinning. Twilight and night skiing will be available in the upcoming weeks, while the snowsports school, rental shop, and childcare are all fully operational. Matt Laws has the full breakdown for you here.

Newland Park walk trail may be paved
The senior project manager for the Newland Park told county officials last week that the walking trail at the new 51-acre park may be paved when construction begins next year. Tweetsie Railroad is a family-oriented heritage railroad and Wild West amusement park between Boone and Blowing Rock, NC. The park consists of a 3-mile ride on a train pulled by one of Tweetsie Railroad's two historic narrow-gauge steam locomotives. Engine #12 is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The park also features a variety of amusement rides, live shows, a zoo, and other attractions geared towards families with children.
