With that said, a lot of wild and hatchery steelhead remain from Old Bridge through Douglas City. Fishing remains superb on nymphs and this is a good time to swing as well. These are super grabby summer run fish, you can get them on Rubberlegs, Duracells, Olive Hotspots and Copper Johns. And eggs. The predictions is for some clearing with scattered clouds for the coming week with some rain by the following week. The rains hopefully will start some movement of fish and we can start seeing some good action. The upper river has been having some fair to good fishing in between the rains. The heavy rains of last week kind of slowed the fishing a bit but now the rivers are dropping fishing should start to pick up some.

As another weakening storm approaches the North Coast, it’s safe to say we’re now on the backside of the late-fall coastal king salmon run. This fall still hasn’t delivered the kind of big storm needed to give the rivers a full blowout, and most have been teetering between open and closed. On the bright side, salmon returns to the coastal rivers appear strong. Plenty of kings have been caught on the Smith, from the tidewater up to the forks, over the past few weeks, and schools of traveling salmon have been spotted pushing through the smaller coastal streams as well.
