Deadly Arden Arcade crash caused by red light runner, officers say
ARDEN ARCADE – Authorities say a deadly crash on an Arden Arcade street was caused by a driver running a red light. The crash happened just after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Watt and El Camino avenues. Metro Fire of Sacramento crews responded to the scene and found a sedan and an SUV had been involved in a crash. California Highway Patrol says it appears one of the vehicles ran a red light, then collided with another vehicle in the intersection. The impact sent one of the vehicles into a pole. One driver was pronounced dead at the scene, CHP says. Another person was treated by medics and released at the scene. The name of the person who died has not been released, but he was said to be a man in his 30s. California Highway Patrol will be investigating the crash. It's unclear, at this point, which vehicle was at fault.
Man convicted of first-degree murder for stabbing roommate 17 times in Roseville
ROSEVILLE — A Placer County jury found a man guilty of first-degree murder for stabbing his roommate 17 times in their Roseville home, prosecutors said Tuesday. On June 15, 2022, first responders went to the 400 block of Loretto Drive for a report of a man down inside a home. The victim was found on the living room floor with a broken-off knife in his abdomen, the Placer County District Attorney's Office said.

Killer of Citrus Heights man granted early parole
CITRUS HEIGHTS, Calif. — A man convicted in the killing of a Citrus Heights man could be out on parole in November. Sacramento County District Attorney Thien Ho said Jeffrey Powell was granted an early parole after serving 10 years out of a 16 years to life sentence. Ho called for an en banc review and recission, but the Board of Parole Hearings affirmed the parole grant on April 17, 2024.
Wanted suspect allegedly tried to get into Granite Bay home, deputies say
GRANITE BAY – A suspect with outstanding warrants has been arrested after he allegedly tried to get into a Granite Bay home, authorities say. The Placer County Sheriff's Office says the incident happened in April, but they only released video of the arrest on Wednesday. Deputies initially responded to the neighborhood to investigate the reported break-in and got to the scene in time to stop the suspect. He allegedly gave deputies a false name, but he was soon identified as 37-year-old Jeremy Ahmed.Ahmed had two outstanding warrants out of Sacramento, the sheriff's office says. A set of keys to a stolen vehicle was also found with Ahmed, deputies say, with the vehicle parked nearby. Deputies arrested Ahmed on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, giving false information to officers, possession of drug paraphernalia, and the outstanding warrants.
