Vote yes for our kids
Due to a reduction in federal funding, our Winona Area Public Schools will be facing a financial shortfall and are being forced to make cuts that negatively impact the education of our local students. Class sizes are already large, making it increasingly difficult for teachers to do their jobs. A yes vote on the renewal of the current levy will allow our schools to maintain critical teaching positions throughout the district. If you feel education is important, please turn your ballot over and vote yes for the future of our Winona children. Your support is much appreciated.

About 500 people flocked to Ames Park in Northfield to rally in favor of voting early. It was cool and windy Saturday morning on Mai-Fête Island as students from Carleton College ate doughnuts, talked to local DFL candidates and worked on signs reading “No Kings” and “Power of the People.” A few hours later, they were among a crowd of more than 500 protesters in downtown Northfield. “It’s so great to see that I’m not alone, and that it’s going to be OK,” said Kate Boye-Williams, a sophomore at Carleton. “There’s all these people here that at the very least disagree with what’s going on. It’s great that there’s other people that think this, and it makes a difference.” Boye-Williams, originally from Connecticut, was one of more than a dozen students and community members present at a warm-up event leading up to the No Kings: Vote Early rally in downtown Northfield Saturday afternoon. Kaye Boye-Williams said her parents, both university professors, used to take her to protests when she was little. Here, she works on her sign she’d later take down to Ames Park. The Owatonna School Board at their Monday work session. During its Monday work session, the Owatonna School Board discussed changes on the horizon for extracurricular eligibility relating to its online students in grades nine through 12. During the 2025-26 school year, the Minnesota State High School League Board of Directors appointed an ad hoc committee to work on and present a proposal regarding online student extracurricular eligibility, which the board has since approved. The new policy will take effect in the 2027-28 school year. The eligibility infographic provided to the board by Dr. Martina Wagner at their work session. The policy is intended to address questions of online student extracurricular eligibility and increase access for students who are fully online. Students who have already been participating in extracurricular activities prior to this new policy will
