Girls golf team improving
Our girls finished in 12th place out of 14 full teams and another 6 incomplete teams. Our Girls shot a team score of 458 which is our lowest score in 3 years. Marist Catholic won the event with a 388. LaGrande was 2nd with a 389, and Salem Academy was 3rd with a 391. Individually, Catlin Gable’s Vishaka Priyan was the medalist with a 1-under 71. The Siuslaw Girls’ individual Score were:Jozy Hulet---110 / Tied for 39th.

In my opinion Florence has a better hospital and medical staff than San Francisco, Portland, Salem, Eugene or other hospitals I have had to visit in the last 75 years. Boys golf team ties for 2nd
The Siuslaw Vikings boys golf team tied for second place Monday in an 11-school 3A/2A/1A Special District 2 match at McNary Golf Club in Keizer. Western Christian took team honors with a score of 347, while Siuslaw and Regis totaled 365. Host Blanchet Catholic was fourth with 374 and East Linn Christian Academy fifth with 378.
Poacher faces potential judgment of over $13 million for senseless act
A 20-year-old man suspected of killing nearly 18,000 young salmon at an Oregon fish hatchery was charged with burglary, criminal trespass and criminal mischief, and will be charged with poaching as well. The suspect faces a huge financial penalty and possibly a lifetime fishing ban. The chinook salmon died after a gallon of bleach was poured into one of the four rearing tanks at the hatchery, according to the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife. David’s Chair to be highlighted at FACC meeting
The May 1 meeting of the Florence Area Community Coalition will feature Jeff Kellevig, operations Manager, NW Oregon for David’s Chair Outdoor Mobility Systems. Jeff will present information about the David’s Chair project and will have a chair present so that people can see the chair after the meeting. David’s Chair mission is to enrich the lives of mobility impaired people with independence and freedom by empowering them to engage in outdoor activities they previously were unable to, free of charge.
Vikings beat Elmira twice
The Siuslaw Vikings baseball team brought out the brooms April 12 to wave goodbye to the Creswell Falcons at Jiggs Dodson Stadium. Siuslaw won 10-9 and 7-6 to complete a three-game sweep of the Falcons, the only team in the same league as the Vikings the past six seasons.

Following a push by a Florence resident to create a rain shelter at the local public dog park, the City has put a page on its website to help collect the needed funding. “The community has expressed an interest in constructing a weather shelter for the Singing Pines Dog Park,” the new page reads. “Chip Asplund has spearheaded this donation drive in honor of his late wife, Melody Joy Asplund.”
