Deadline is May 1 to apply for vacant Florence council seat

The deadline to apply for the vacant seat on the Florence Town Council is coming up.

An application, cover memo and resume must be submitted by Wednesday May 1.

The council will review applications and schedule interviews throughout May, with a potential appointment in June.

The seat became open when Councilmember Michelle Cordes resigned to run for mayor. According to the council staff report, “since the vacancy has occurred within 0-30 days before the April 1, 2024, filing deadline, the appointee will serve the remainder of the councilmember term or until December 2026.”

Cordes resigned on March 28. She was reelected to the council in 2022 with that term set to end in December 2026.

Eligible candidates must be:

• A Florence resident for at least one year
• At least 18 years old
• A registered voter
