A Texas music icon is headed to Lubbock. Robert Earl Keen , one of the Lone Star State's most celebrated songwriters and performers, is proving "the road goes on forever and that the party never ends," as he is set to perform Tuesday, Dec. 15, at Buddy Holly Hall. The event is called "I Will Survive ... Christmas" with support from Drayton Farley. The announcement was made noon Tuesday, with tickets scheduled to go on sale 10 a.m. Oct. 23 . Keen, 70, who started to play guitar a littler after starting at Sharpstown High School in Houston, developed his skills and learned to play classic country covers and bluegrass prior to enrolling at Texas A&M University. He graduated from A&M in 1978 and moved to Austin in order to get reps by performing in nightclubs and live-music venues in and around Central Texas and near his hometown. He paid his dues, fine tuned his craft and saw the success build. Some of that included having songs sung by legends like George Strait and The Highwaymen, while garnering the BMI Troubadour Award and having the Texas Legislative Conference name him Texan of the Year earlier in the year. The Barkyard, Patriot Pumps, Ransom Canyon designer make Lubbock news
Hello A-J readers! This week brought news of a new pet resort opening just in time for the holidays, an Oregon company's move to Wolfforth, and a Ransom Canyon designer once again getting international recognition. Let's look at this week's highlights. Jenny Melville is achieving a childhood dream by opening The BarkYard, 1005 County Road 7300, in early November. The 1-acre pet resort aims to be "your dog's hometown retreat" with an indoor play area, two outdoor play yards with artificial turf, a washroom, small retail space, and kennels. "I want it to be a place where your dog wants to come, and they can't wait to get inside," Melville said. "I want the dogs to have enough room to stretch their legs during the day. They can play and rest, so they're not so overstimulated, and they're comfortable in this environment." Reservations are opening for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays and the booking software should launch soon on barkyardpetresort.com . In the meantime, people can sign up for the VIP waitlist. People on the waitlist, once booking launches, will be contacted to create their pet profiles and arrange meet and greets. More: New BarkYard pet resort opening in Lubbock
