Japanese restaurant opens in Bloomington's former Princess Theater
A new restaurant has opened in the former Princess Theater location at 206 N. Walnut St. Japones is open 4-11 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 4-10 p.m. Sunday. The menu leans toward Asian fusion offering sushi, steak and shrimp habachi served at patron's tables without performance cooking, the spicy noodle soup Jjamppong and Tuna Tower, that was described as a "stunning dish that's as beautiful as it is delicious." The advertisements for Japones state the restaurant offers modern Japanese food, sushi, ramen, chicken teriyaki and cocktails. The restaurant, which opened Jan. 28, has a sushi bar area with seating as well as seating overlooking the bar area below and seating downstairs. One of the restaurant's sushi dishes, Smokey Roll, is set on fire (the sushi is in foil) when it's served. "The sushi is delicious," said manager Fallon Jones, before the restaurant opened last week. Other sushi options include a lion king roll with shrimp tempura, avocado and eel inside the roll with spicy crab, spicy mayo and eel sauce outside; and the IU roll with spicy tuna and avocado in the roll that has tuna and white tuna on the outside.
