Tyrese Hunter injury update: Memphis basketball guard leaves AAC semifinal, does not return
FORT WORTH, Texas — Memphis basketball starting point guard Tyrese Hunter did not return to Saturday's AAC tournament semifinal against Tulane after suffering a foot injury. Hunter left the court early in the second half and went straight to the locker room. He had seven points and four assists in 23 minutes before leaving the game. He returned to the bench, limping and with his left foot in a boot. Memphis led 39-32 at halftime , but the Green Wave reeled off a 7-0 run to open the second half and make it a more competitive game. Hunter is averaging 13.9 points per game this season. Memphis guard options without Tyrese Hunter The Tigers are likely to lean on Baraka Okojie. Reserve guard Dante Harris suffered an ankle injury against UTSA in the penultimate game of the regular season and has not played since, so Memphis is stretched thin at the guard position. PJ Haggerty is likely to handle the ball more as well. Reach sports writer Jonah Dylan at jonah.dylan@commercialappeal.com or on X @thejonahdylan.
