Homestead Tax Credit case on pause

A Clay County judge has dismissed the case filed by two candidates against the current county collector – for now. In September, Republican presiding commissioner candidate Jason Maki and Republican collector candidate Jim Bosch filed a petition against current Platte County Collector Sheila Palmer, also a Republican. It asked the court to compel Palmer to implement the voter-approved Homestead Tax Credit on this year's tax bills. Bosch was dismissed from the petition on Oct. 21.

Kansas Turnpike Authority plans expansion of I-70 north and east of Lawrence

An upcoming project will expand Interstate 70 to six lanes in parts of Douglas and Leavenworth counties and replace two overhead bridges as part of a $136.6 million contract. A 9-mile stretch of the highway will be widened from four lanes. That stretch is between mile markers 204.5, which is near I-70’s North Lawrence interchange, and 213.5, which is east of town between Linwood to the south and Tonganoxie to the north.
