Step inside Kansas City's niche fragrance shop to find your own ‘really unique' scent

A niche Kansas City perfumery gaining popularity is expanding into its own storefront next month. H.Bath Perfumer, currently inside GEORGE a Lifestyle Store at 315 55th St. , is opening its own space a few doors down at 309 E 55th St. on Nov 3. The new location will enable Heather Bath, owner of H.Bath Perfumer, to carry twice as many scents and add between six and ten new brands for customers to try. “I’ve had people come in who are like, ‘Nothing smells good. I buy everything that my friends buy,’” Bath said. “We’ll do a skin test, and we’ll be like, ‘It’s because your skin presents sweet; you should only be wearing sandalwood, maybe an iris as a floral.’ And then they’re like, ‘Oh my gosh, you’ve unlocked this mystery for me.’” Bath opened her booth filled with about 250 bottles inside Brookside’s GEORGE a Lifestyle Store in May 2025. “I walked by this window, and I said to my husband, ‘This is a perfect place for my bar, and then it happened,” Bath said. Though she is originally from Kansas City, Bath’s family has plenty of ties to the wine world. Her grandfather was a rancher and

Dead bugs in a cooler, moldy ice machine: Latest KC-area restaurant inspections

From exposed wire lines to employees eating while preparing food, health inspectors in Missouri and Kansas found numerous violations at Kansas City-area restaurants last week. Dining establishments like sit-down restaurants, drive-thrus, gas stations and grocery stores are required to get food inspections, and governments have to release those inspections to the public. In Kansas City and Independence, each city’s health department enforces the food code while in Kansas, the state’s Department of Agriculture handles inspections. The lower the number of violations, the better. Most restaurants correct violations at the time of the original inspection or shortly after. The full inspections show how each establishment has corrected or is working to correct any remaining violations. They are available for Kansas City at inspectionsonline.us/foodsafety/mousakansascity/search.htm and Johnson and Wyandotte counties at portal.kda.ks.gov/Food/FoodInspectionSearch. Here are the restaurants in Kansas City, as well as in Wyandotte and Johnson County, that received seven or more priority and priority foundation violations from Oct. 4-11.
