"The food pantry did a remodel...they've moved in and I think they've settled in well. CASA moved in, early February. Just here recently, Mother-to-Mother is going to open up a youth center sometime in March...I think that first week in March or second week...so they've taken up the rest of the basement. We remodeled an office upstairs for the I-T office, so they'll be moving upstairs in the next couple of weeks. Then, we've got Keep Beatrice Beautiful there, Main Street..so basically now, we're full capacity."

BEATRICE – Pickrell Firefighters were sent to a garage fire Sunday afternoon, about two miles north of the community. Beatrice Rural Firefighters were summoned for mutual aid support, but Chief Matt Langley says the Pickrell Department had things under control quickly. A burn barrel being used caught the side of a garage on fire, doing some damage.

Johnson-Brock BBB Smothers Elmwood-Murdock to Make State Tournament
JOHNSON, NE - The Johnson-Brock Eagles' boys basketball team will defend its state title after grabbing a 45-29 win over Elmwood-Murdock on Saturday in the District D1-2 Final. The teams were tied at 13 through the first frame, but the Eagles were able to pull ahead at the half, 22-16. That lead built to ten points after three frames, and Johnson-Brock didn't let up in the fourth. Camden Dalinghaus led three Eagles players in double-digits with 14 points. Lleyton Behrends dropped in eleven, and Brody Koehler had ten points for JB. The host squad hit 7/12 at the free throw line, and the team committed just eight turnovers, while racking up 13 steals. Riley Wilson led Elmwood-Murdock with nine points.
Pawnee City comes up short despite Jett Farwell's strong performance

Smoke smell sends Beatrice Fire, police to downtown building
BEATRICE, NEB. - Beatrice Fire and Rescue and the Beatrice Police Department responded to a report of smoke in a downtown Beatrice building Thursday afternoon. According to Beatrice Fire Captain Craig Fisher, just after 1:30 p.m., Beatrice Fire and Rescue searched the building located at 514 Court St., where they found visible smoke in the first floor basement. Fisher says firefighters were working to find the source by checking computers, monitors, coffee makers and other electrical items.

Grill explosion triggers fire, at Woodland Avenue home
BEATRICE – Beatrice Firefighters were sent to a home in the eleven-hundred block of Woodland Avenue late Thursday afternoon, in the northwest Glenover section of the city. Chief Brian Daake says it was initially reported as a cooking grill blowing up, and a fire in an attached garage. "We had multiple units out on medical calls...so we kind of had a hodge-podge response. The fire was out on arrival. They were able to hit it with a garden hose really quick, which was a good thing. It was definitely an accidental fire. There was no propane that exploded. There was some cleaning supplies, a couple of aerosol cans went off...which was what the noise was. There was one person at home at the time, and he was not injured."
