Montverde Academy: No. 1 high school team explains secret to success
MONTVERDE, Fla. – If you walk into the Nest at Montverde Academy, you will see a wall full of former students who have gone pro and multiple national championship banners. If you are lucky enough to be on campus when one of the basketball teams is competing in a championship game, you will see teachers and students glued to the game, following every score.

Four West Orange and Southwest Orange County teams remain in the FHSAA state softball playoffs. In Class 2A, Foundation Academy and The First Academy will play in the regional semifinals Tuesday, May 14. Foundation, the No. 1 seed in Region 2, beat Orangewood Christian, 11-9, in the regional quarterfinals, while TFA, the No. 4 seed topped Mount Dora Christian, 9-4. Foundation will host Academy at the Lakes in the region semifinals and the Royals will travel to Cornerstone Charter Academy.
The First Academy, Windermere baseball to play for region championships
The last two remaining West Orange and Southwest Orange County baseball teams across the seven FHSAA classifications have advanced to the regional championship round. The First Academy, in Class 2A, beat Bishop McLaughlin Catholic, 6-0, in regional quarterfinals, narrowly got past Santa Fe Catholic, 1-0, in regional semifinals, and now will play at Lakeland Christian on Tuesday, May 14 at 7 p.m. in the 2A, Region 2 championship game for a chance to reach the state final four.
Horizon boys volleyball tops Windermere, advances to second consecutive regional championship game
Led by star senior outside hitter James Candrian and his 16 kills, nine digs and two blocks, Horizon High boys volleyball topped Windermere High in straight sets — 25-17, 25-23 and 25-19 — in the FHSAA Region 3 semifinals. Horizon’s junior setter Ian Silva had 29 assists, two digs, 12 points off serves and one kill.
