Effort to save millions of birds from dying in window collisions
LONG ISLAND, N.Y. -- Millions of birds are flying north to New York this spring, but many may not survive the journey because they will crash into windows. In an effort to save birds' lives, the state installed bird-safe glass, film and decals at the Jones Beach Energy and Nature Center on Long Island. Shake Shack is planning to open a new location inside Selden’s Westfield Center, Brookhaven Town records indicate. The town board has scheduled a public hearing for Thursday, April 25, regarding the proposed 3,400-square-foot drive-thru hamburger and ice cream shake joint. This week’s featured shelter pet is Buster, a three-year-old chocolate lab up for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter. Handsome Buster arrived at the shelter last September. Young, energetic and a powerhouse of strength at 90 pounds, he loves all people, taking walks and, most of all, food! World premiere to be featured in North Shore Chamber Choir’s spring concerts
The North Shore Chamber Choir recently announced that its program for Spring 2024 will feature the world premiere of David Voss’s work, The Resurrection Promise: A Cantata for Easter. Voss, who is the Artistic Director for the Chamber choir, has written a modern setting for the Easter story, which also features a bell choir, various instrumentalists, and soloists. Voss graduated from Stony Brook University with a Master of Arts in Composition.
