Babylon IDA hosts regional housing options panel
In order to discuss housing availability and policy throughout Long Island, the Babylon Industrial Development Agency held a panel discussion on this topic at the East Farmingdale Fire Department. Featuring industry voices such as Kevin Gremse, managing director, Grow America Fund; Gwen O’Shea, president and CEO, Community Development Corporation of LI; and Kyle Strober, executive director, Association for a Better Long Island; the event discussed each panelist’s unique perspectives regarding housing options throughout the Long Island region.
The panel also marked the IDA’s first business summit this year, demonstrating its commitment to addressing the diverse topics affecting the town and surrounding areas.
Team Schein plants garden, donates produce to Island Harvest
To commemorate Earth Day, around 50 Team Schein volunteers gathered at Henry Schein corporate headquarters to plant vegetables at the company’s community garden. With greens such as lettuce, endive and kale, the fresh produce will also be donated to Island Harvest to aid food insecure Long Islanders.
Since establishing its community garden last year, Team Schein has donated 50 pounds of produce to both Island Harvest Food Bank and the LI Coalition for the Homeless. The company continues these efforts year round through Practice Green, a global initiative to encourage healthcare practitioners and suppliers to become more eco-friendly.
Austin Williams holds Earth Day clothing drive
Advertising agency Austin Williams held its annual spring clothing drive in honor of Earth Day at its Hauppauge headquarters. Employees were encouraged to donate gently used clothing, which were used as part of the culture committee’s clothing swap event. Any leftover items were then distributed to Long Island Lending a Helping Hand, a food pantry and community center for food-insecure and low-income Rocky Point area residents.
According to a written company statement, Austin Williams employees “saved more than 200 items of clothing and donated 10 bags of gently used clothing to fellow Long Islanders in need.”
LI Fight for Charity seeks volunteer boxers for November event
Long Island Fight for Charity is seeking volunteer boxers for its annual main event set for Monday, Nov. 25, at the Hilton Long Island in Melville. Featuiring at least 10 bouts between volunteer charity boxers, it has raised more than $1.8 million since its inception more than 20 years ago.
While no previous boxing experience is required, volunteers must commit to fundraising efforts of at least $10,000, as well as training and participation in one bout.
