Farmersville man arrested after using laser pointer, deputies say

FARMERSVILLE, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – A 58-year-old man in Farmersville has been arrested on suspicion of pointing a laser pointer at a patrol aircraft, according to the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials say, just before 9 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office’s airplane, Wren-1, was conducting a routine patrol within the county. Wren 1 was struck from the ground with a laser pointer and the flight crew was able to identify the home the laser came from, according to officials.

Officials say the flight crew directed Farmersville Police Officers to the location where responding officers found a man identified by Tulare County Sheriffs as 58-year-old Gary Akers.

Akers admitted to pointing the laser at the aircraft and the laser was then taken as evidence, according to officials.

The Sheriff’s Office says Akers was arrested and booked at the Adult Pretrial Facility, officials say he also has active warrants for possession of counterfeit items and fraud.
