Faribault's Joe Palmer ends collegiate season with Colorado State in March Madness

As March Madness transitions from Sweet 16 into the Elite Eight, several teams have seen and will continue to see their respective seasons come to an end while dancing in March.

Faribault native and former Falcons standout Joe Palmer were among those players taking to the courts for March Madness as a grad student and guard for the No. 10 seeded Colorado State Rams.

Palmer and the Rams entered into the NCAA tournament by cruising past Virginia during the First Four round. Colorado State won the game 67-42 with Palmer contributing three rebounds, two assists and a steal in 16 minutes off the bench.

They're tournament run came to an end during the first round when the No. 10 seeded Rams faced a 56-44 loss to the No. 7 seeded Texas Longhorns. Palmer played another 16 minutes off the bench and added three pointers on his lone made 3-pointer with six rebounds.

Palmer, a two-time Big 9 All-Conference selection, certainly needs no introduction for the Falcons. Since departing from Faribault High School, Palmer as carved out a great collegiate career with March Madness being a recent addition to the list of accolades.

The former Faribault standout initially played three seasons of Division III basketball at Augsburg University, where he emerged as a star with the Auggies. He led the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) in scoring and rebounding during his junior season. He ended up as the MIAC Player of the Year and and First Team All-Conference selection in 2022.

During the 2022-23 season with the Rams, Palmer averaged 3.2 points and 24 rebounds coming off the bench. In 36 games played with two starts this season, Palmer averaged 5.0 points and 3.0 rebounds per game as the Rams finished the year with a 25-11 overall record.
