A Philadelphia man is accused of triggering a three-car accident on Route 1 last year that sent a half dozen people to the hospital including a woman who lost an arm.

Nathaniel John Clark II, 44, was arraigned Thursday night on two felonies and related offenses including seven counts each of misdemeanor reckless endangerment and simple assault. He was taken to Bucks County Correctional Center in lieu of $50,000 bail. He did not have a legal representative as of Friday, according to the docket.

Falls police allege Clark was responsible for a Sept. 27 chain reaction accident shortly after 2 p.m. on southbound Route 1 near North Oxford Valley Road that closed the highway for hours.

At the accident scene, police spoke with Clark, who said he was traveling south on Route 1 in the right lane when he merged into the left lane in front of a Honda Del Sol, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Clark said that after he merged he saw the Del Sol move onto the left shoulder and he believed it struck the Jeep Grand Cherokee that he was driving causing him to lose control of his vehicle, striking a minivan in the right lane.

A video that police received the day after the accident, showing the accident unfolding from the opposite side of Route 1, offered additional perspective.

The video appears to show the Grand Cherokee’s merge attempt, which forced the driver of the Del Sol into the left shoulder where the driver then accelerated. The Del Sol attempted to pass the Grand Cherokee, which struck the Del Sol causing both drivers to lose control and swerve into the right lane hitting the minivan, the affidavit said.
