BERKLEY, Mass. (WPRI) — Aerial footage from Massachusetts State Police shows a chase that ended with three arrests in Berkley Wednesday afternoon.

Troopers tried to stop a stolen vehicle shortly before 3 p.m. related to an earlier Be On the Lookout, or BOLO, notification.

The driver fled and was followed onto Route 79 North, but state police stopped chasing them when the car got off the highway and onto local roads. Prosecutors said the driver was speeding more than 100 mph at some points during the chase, and nearly collided head-on with a semi-trailer truck.

The State Police Air Wing helicopter was able to find the vehicle and track it as it got onto Route 24 North. The car then got off the highway and was surrounded by state police and Berkley police.

Three people were seen getting out of the vehicle and running into a wooded area, but were caught within a few minutes, state police said.

The driver, 19-year-old Kobe West, of Fall River, has been charged with receiving a stolen vehicle, operating a motor vehicle with a revoked driver’s license, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, marked lanes violation, and speeding.

Alexia Springer, 21, and Lijah Fortes, 27, both of Fall River, were charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle.

West was also wanted on five outstanding warrants for his arrest, but those charges were not clear.

Defense attorneys for Springer and Fortes claimed the two were just getting a ride from West and had no clue the car was stolen.

Meanwhile, West’s attorney argued that he didn’t know the vehicle had been stolen either and that he was only running because he was wanted on other charges.

Prosecutors said an arrest warrant was issued for West after he cut off his ankle bracelet following a domestic dispute, and that he had already evaded capture once on Tuesday when officers pulled him over.

West is currently being held without bail pending his next court date. Fortes is also being held on a $5,000 surety bond.
