Meet owner of Salisbury's new Chick-fil-A, local who grew up in business
Chick-fil-A is nearing its grand opening at 828-840 South Salisbury Blvd., and a Salisbury, Maryland, native is set to man the helm. The new restaurant announced that it will officially open to the public on Thursday, Feb. 26, at 6:30 a.m. Steve Gibson, owner and operator of Chick-fil-A's newest location, said customers of the South Salisbury site can expect to have a local owner who cares about them and the surrounding community. "My Chick-fil-A story started when I was a little kid," he shared. "I grew up in the business. It was the first job I ever had." Gibson's journey with Chick-fil-A began in 2004 as a team member. It's a family business, he said. The popular American fast-food chain operates three other spots in Salisbury, two of which in north Salisbury are owned by Gibson's father, Rob. His brothers, Matt and Brian, are also Chick-fil-A owners and operators. "I learned from my dad," Gibson said. "He's one of the best." 'The true Italian way': Accanto opens in Easton
EASTON — A new Italian restaurant cut the ribbon on Tuesday, officially opening as a sister establishment to Piazza Italian Market in Easton. Emily Chandler, owner of both establishments, envisions Accanto as a warm, versatile dining space that complements the market by offering a sit-down evening experience. It’s the latest addition to the Talbot Town Shopping Center off of North Washington Street. Chandler said she’s ready to focus on “making delicious food and keeping people coming back.” Accanto celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday where guests were offered suppli (fried rice croquettes with a molten mozzarella center), crostinis, distinctive wood-fire pizza, and wine or beer. The space was filled with residents who came to celebrate the new Italian eatery. Accanto General Manager Kat Hamidi said the restaurant was delayed getting its liquor license due to the snow, so the opening has been relatively relaxed. Hamidi said the initial lack of a liquor license was frustrating but became a blessing in disguise. It allowed for a slower start, giving staff time to “get their sea legs” and train properly without being overwhelmed. The restaurant aims to serve high-quality ingredients simply — what Hamidi said is “the true Italian way.” This means

Caroline’s in Denton owner nominated for Chef of the Year award
DENTON — Ken Zellers, owner of Caroline’s in Denton, has been nominated for the Restaurant Association of Maryland’s Chef of the Year. “I’ve said it before on some posts, awards are great, but it’s not what we do it for,” Zellers said in an interview Wednesday. “We do it to try and give people an hour away in the restaurant industry to put a smile on their face, have a good meal and relax.” Zellers said the call came as a surprise. But he’s happy that Caroline’s in Denton is getting recognized. According to its website, Caroline’s in Denton focuses on providing comfort food with fresh farm-to-table ingredients. “With awards comes a lot of great recognition,” Zellers said. “Caroline County, Denton, people are going to hear about it now at this event. There’s some really big time chefs who have won this award the past couple years.” There were hundreds of nominations throughout the state, Zellers said. A committee hand-picked the five finalists, and now it will go to a popular vote. Voting begins March 1. Zellers took over ownership of Caroline’s in Denton from previous owner Nancy Minahan in 2024. Zellers interviewed multiple times for the chef position at
