FAIRMONT, W.Va. (WBOY) — The Marion County Family Resource and Support Network held a community baby shower and resource event on Saturday to support new and expecting mothers.

The event took place at the Baptist Temple in Fairmont and provided 20 attendees with resources, information and a chance to win prizes such as highchairs, car seats and toys.

Chief executive officer of the Marion County Family Resource and Support Network Shannon Hogue was inspired to support new mothers after viewing the results of a community survey.

“We had our first annual baby shower last year and it was very well received and we got lots of great, positive feedback from it, so we wanted to do it again this year,” Hogue said.

“What we do with the Marion County Family Resource and Support Network is we want to build strong families and build strong communities and in order to do that, you got to start at the beginning, so we start right there where the parenthood journey begins.”

The support network plans to continue holding the community baby shower for years to come.
