Our cowboy poetry gathering was only to be a one year event
Just like the Annual National Cowboy Poetry Gathering held in Elko, Nev., it was to be only a one year event. I had the honor of representing North Dakota at its inaugural in 1985. Feeling the need to bring to light all of the regional talents of cowboy poets and balladeers, I sought assistance from the North Dakota Council on the Arts, the North Dakota Humanities, Jim Fuglie of the North Dakota Tourism Department, as well as private involvement of the Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation to host a one-time celebration of our western culture.
