Make-A-Wish Connecticut and Jersey Mike's stores across the state are teaming up to change the lives of children with critical illnesses.

Wednesday is the Day of Giving.

Jersey Mike's locations in Connecticut will give 100% of their sales to Make-A-Wish Connecticut.

One Make-A-Wish kid stopped into the Jersey Mike's location on Black Rock Turnpike in Fairfield.

"Let's go," said 9-year-old Colton Johnston from Fairfield.

Johnston is in remission from leukemia. He made a sandwich at Jersey Mike's. Each one can change the life of a Make A Wish kid.

"This is one of the most important days ever because we're helping grant a lot of kids' wishes," said Johnston.

The wishes have taken kids with critical illnesses to place like Disney and Hawaii.

"My wish was to go on a pirate ship," said Johnston.

"We have over 350 kids waiting for wishes to come true, and Jersey Mike's hears that, and for them to do everything that they're doing today preparing the whole month for the Day of Giving. Giving 100% to our kids is amazing," said Kim Smith with Make-A-Wish Connecticut.

Workers showed up at 4 a.m. to start baking the bread and getting all the fixings ready.

"We get an opportunity to show up to work and make a huge impact in our communities," said Fairfield Jersey Mike's owner Mitch Thompson.

Last year, Jersey Mike's stores in Connecticut raised a half-million dollars for Make-A-Wish Connecticut.

"We're on pace to beat that for sure," said Thompson.

"Come on down to Jersey Mike's today," said Johnston.
