McCOOL JUNCTION, NE - The McCool Junction Mustangs won the second half to take the Subdistrict D1-2 Title over Elmwood-Murdock, 49-41. The Knights & Mustangs were knotted at 22 at halftime before McJ took a narrow 35-30 lead into the fourth and held on for the win. Carson McDonald led the charge for the Mustangs with 18 points, while Mapieu Kouchinin had 15, and Bryson Plock dropped in eleven. The Knights got 17 from Aidan Schmidt, while Easton Miller hit for ten. McCool Junction has earned the 4-seed among the final 16 teams, and they'll host Riverside in the District D1-4 Final. Elmwood-Murdock nabbed the last wildcard spot and the 15-seed. The Knights will visit Johnson-Brock in the District D1-2 Final.

McCOOL JUNCTION, NE - The Lourdes Central Catholic boys basketball team came back to secure a 56-45 win over East Butler on Monday to advance in the Subdistrict D1-2 Tournament at McCool Junction Public School. The Knights missed eight-straight free throws in the second quarter, causing them to fall behind at halftime, 30-20. LCC matched its first-half point total in the third quarter, dominating in a 20-3 frame! The Tigers were unable to fight their way back, as LCC advanced, 56-45. The Knights got 23 points from Trevor Tesarek and another ten points from Gabriel Baxa. East Butler was led by the ten points of Owen Obbink. Lourdes CC will try to upset top-seed McCool Junction on Tuesday night with tipoff at 5:30p on Otoe County Country 1600AM/105.5FM. That contest will be followed by #2 Elmwood-Murdock v. #3 Weeping Water, also on Otoe County Country and B103.FM.

FORT SCOTT, Kan. – The Concordia University Baseball team was playing MLB The Show on easy mode all weekend. The Bulldogs continued to wear out the basepaths on Sunday (Feb. 25) as they homered 11 times and racked up 32 hits while wiping out Culver-Stockton College (Mo.) in games three and four of the four-game series. The latest matchups went to Concordia by scores of 15-4 and 12-1. Jaidan Quinn finished off a week full of video game numbers, homering three more times on Sunday.
Elmwood-Murdock and McCool Junction Advance to D1-2 BBB Tourney Championship
McCOOL JUNCTION, NE - In the first game of the night, the McCool Junction Mustangs advanced in the Subdistrict D1-2 BBB Tournament with an 80-45 win over Lourdes Central Catholic. Four players scored in double figures for the Mustangs; Mapieu Kouchinin led the way with 19 points, Bryson Plock had 18, Carson McDonald dropped in 14, and Ryland Garretson hit for twelve. Trenton Orlando had just three points, but he piled up eleven assists. McCool Junction was a hot 11/20 from downtown in the win & hit 11/18 at the free throw line. The team built a 24-10 lead after the first quarter, and LCC never threatened that lead. Three players each scored a dozen for the Knights: Miles Poppleton, Nolan Beccard, and Trevor Tesarek.
Auburn Punches Ticket to Sixth-Straight District Finals in BBB
AUBURN, NE - The Auburn Bulldogs kept their streak of District Finals appearances alive with a solid 58-29 win over Wilber-Clatonia in the Subdistrict C1-1 Championship Game on Thursday. The Bulldogs held a 19-12 lead after the first frame and built it to a 29-20 advantage at the break. Auburn put it to double-digits through three quarters at 38-24, and they didn't let up in a 20-5 fourth frame. The host team hit seven treys and went 7/9 at the free throw line. Maverick Binder finished with 15 points, while Nixon Ligouri added eleven - all in the first half. Wilber-Clatonia was led by the 17-point effort of Grant Kuhlmann, who was a perfect 5/5 at the charity stripe. Nobody else shot a free throw for the Wolverines, and only four players scored. WC ends the season at 13-13, while Auburn is now 25-0. The Bulldogs draw Battle Creek in the District C1-3 Final.
Eurich, Isom star as Bulldogs win one, lose one at USM
LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – The two ends of the doubleheader looked very different on Saturday (Feb. 24) afternoon in Leavenworth, Kan. The Concordia University Softball team got a strong pitching performance from Megan Eurich and a home run apiece from Laycee Josoff and Zoie Isom as part of a 7-2 victory in game one. Host University of Saint Mary then dominated game two while striking for 14 hits in a 13-1 five-inning rout. Eurich fired a seven-inning complete game in the day’s opener.
Dawgs handle Warriors through defense and rebounding on senior day
SEWARD, Neb. – The Concordia Women’s Basketball team collected its 23rd triumph of the 2023-24 campaign, breaking into a double digit lead (12) by halftime and finishing over Midland (80-50). With Senior Day being celebrated for nine Bulldogs, the defense held the Warriors to 28.1 percent (16-of-57 FG) shooting and seized a season high 48 rebounds off the glass. A pack of seniors led the way in scoring, which started with Taysha Rushton (14), Mackenzie Toomey (13), Kendal Brigham (11) and Powell (11). The senior, out of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, hit a trey in the fourth quarter to grab her 1,000thcareer point. Other teammates honored as the class of 2024 were Lydia Dose, Carolyn Esh, Maggi Hughes, Elayne Poppe and Hanna Spearman.
Six weightlifters set to represent Concordia at 2024 National University Championships
SEWARD, Neb. – A group of six Bulldogs are preparing to represent the Concordia University Weightlifting program at the 2024 National University Championships. The event will run from Feb. 29 through March 3 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio. Sponsored by USA Weightlifting, the event is part of the Arnold Sports Festival and is scheduled to include 342 athletes.
