GOLDEN — John Matocha did not grow up a Denver Broncos fan, but his imitation of John Elway at the goal line is still spot on. His leap at the goal line to ignite Colorado School of Mines was only a portion of his rushing yards, but they meant the most. The flip through the air dislodged his helmet, but his red-faced scream put life into the Orediggers and led the way to a 38-14 win over Central Washington on Saturday at Marv Kay Stadium.

Evergreen area teenage freeskier Cameron Williams pursues slopestyle success
EVERGREEN, Colo. — As many Colorado residents and visitors take to the slopes for some ski season fun, Cameron Williams will be perfecting his next trick and preparing for competition season. The 17-year-old Evergreen High School student is a member of the elite Winter Park Competition Center (WPCC) freeski team, which focuses on a freestyle form of alpine skiing that incorporates tricks, jumps and terrain park obstacles such as rails, boxes, jibs and halfpipes. We caught up with Williams just before the 2023-2023 season opened to chat about his goals as an elite freeskier, what he loves most about the sport, and some of the lessons he’s learned along the way.
