EVENSVILLE — A Rhea County man is facing numerous charges, including a methamphetamine charge with the intent to sell, after a routine traffic stop on Rhea County Highway in Evensville on Wednesday, April 10.

Jayden Hunter Tankersley is facing the charges after being pulled over by Rhea County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Jonathan Scott for an alleged vehicle registration violation.

“I noticed the truck had a tinted tag cover that made it hard to read the tag,” Scott said. “When I was closer, I could see it was bearing a H4 business-style registration plate, commonly seen on large trucks hauling heavy loads.”

Scott said he pulled the vehicle over, and according to the deputy, Tankersely told him that he had no identification and was unable to provide any information on vehicle registration or insurance.

“While speaking with Jayden, he was acting odd in behavior, and I could see a razor blade-style knife in the floorboard,” Scott said. “I asked Jayden to step out of the vehicle. Once he exited, I asked if I could search him for weapons or anything illegal, and he gave consent. He also stated, ‘These ain’t my pants.’”

Scott said that upon questioning, Tankersley admitted he had methamphetamine in his possession, and Scott later said he found 0.67 grams of methamphetamine in the vehicle, lying between the driver’s seat and the door frame. Tankersley was arrested for violation of the financial responsibility law, driving an unregistered vehicle and possession of a Schedule II controlled substance with the intent to resale. According to jail records, Tankerlsey was still incarcerated at the Rhea County Jail as of press time Tuesday.
