Dwayne M. Leboldus, 79, died Friday, February 23, 2024 at the Estelline Nursing and Care Center in Estelline, SD. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Friday, March 1, 2024 at Lien Funeral Home, Bowdle, led by Father Timothy Cone. Recorded vocals by Chris Tomlin, “Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)” and “I Will Rise”, will be played. Interment follows at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Cemetery, Onaka, SD, with military graveside rites by the John J. Peters American Legion Post No. 159, Hoven, SD.

Shelby Buwalda, a Dordt University women's track and field team member, received All-American honors at the NAIA Indoor National Championship. The championship was held at the Jackrabbit Athletic Complex in Brookings, S.D. Buwalda earned her honor by placing sixth in the 600m final with a personal best time of 1:33.47.

McCrory Gardens to host annual maple syrup workshop
South Dakota State University Extension and McCrory Gardens in Brookings will host their annual maple syrup and tree-tapping workshop on March 23, 2024. The Maple Syrup Workshop is from 10 a.m. to noon in the great hall of McCrory Gardens, giving participants a hands-on tutorial on collecting sap from maple trees. The first 100 participants to attend will get a free bucket and tapping system, provided by the United States Department of Agriculture Acer Access and Development Program. The event is free to attend.
