City Faces Finance Issues
City of Española Finance Director April Moya was blunt about the budgetary challenges facing Española. “We have cut many of the departments including the police to get where we are at right now ... expenditures are just going up,” she said during the May 22 budget meeting. “I recommended that we do across-the-board increases to our fees, to our services, to everything. We have to increase our revenues. If it comes to looking at taxes ... I have a whole list of recommendations that I intend to present.”

Historic East Gate Guard Tower Undergoes Maintenance
The historic East Gate Guard Tower is undergoing maintenance as part of Los Alamos National Laboratory’s commitment to maintaining structures throughout the Lab campus in accordance with historical specifications. The maintenance includes masonry repairs to flooring, exterior walls and stairs as well as reattaching some of the handrails for safety and reattaching a panel cover. Shin: Metropolitan Redevelopment Area Boundaries Would Not Strengthen Local Business Activity
On May 7, our County Council approved the boundaries of a Metropolitan Redevelopment Area (MRA). Based on the criteria for having an MRA, “aged infrastructure, low occupancy rates, and conditions of blight,” the 800 Trinity building should not be included in its boundaries. I would like to submit my public comment made at this meeting.
Water Valve Replacements Scheduled Saturday In Quemazon
A planned water outage is scheduled for Saturday in the section of the Quemazon subdivision recently impacted by water breaks. The outage will allow Gas, Water and Sewer crews from the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) to upgrade underground valve hardware. Water will be turned off 8 a.m....
Canyon Road To Reopen Today, June 7 By 3 PM
The segment of Canyon Road closed to through vehicular traffic will reopen by 3 p.m. today, June 7. During the week of June 10, the contractor will continue construction of the Urban Trail along the north side of Canyon Road between the tennis courts and the Los Alamos Nature Center driveway.
