LHSAA football: OCS defeats St. Fred's behind Tristan Raymond's strong outing "Everyone was absolutely excited," senior Luke Vallery said when the Rebels found out Guillot was returning. "He's just such a leader, and he can just change a ball game around." For the second week in a row, West Monroe pitched a shutout victory. Guillot threw for 166 yards, two touchdowns and an interception as the Rebels defeated Pineville 51-0 on Friday, Oct. 23, at Rebels Stadium. "I think we're just kind of playing complimentary football," West Monroe coach DeMichael Dizer said. "The defense is playing really good right now, and our offense is kind of finding its rhythm on the ground, was able to be a little more balanced (Friday) and throw the ball a little bit and run the football. So I think we're moving in the right direction." Guillot's

Rapides School Board OKs stipends for all employees after Landry order

After Rapides Parish School Board members voted unanimously Tuesday to give stipends to all its employees, not just the ones singled out in Gov. Jeff Landry 's June executive order, members learned their budget could take another multimillion dollar hit tied to declining enrollment. The order directs districts to distribute stipends of $2,000 and $1,000 for classroom teachers and support staff, respectively, from Minimum Foundation Program (MFP) funds districts receive from the state. Landry's order came after voters twice rejected constitutional amendments that would have used state funds for a teacher pay raise. In Rapides Parish, the governor's order means the district lost $5.3 million in MFP funds that will go to the stipend. Board members were told that the Louisiana Legislative Auditor wants boards to adopt a resolution on the stipends, even though the board already included it in salary schedules adopted in July. The resolution presented to the board Tuesday during a special board meeting included the recommendation from Superintendent Jeff Powell's administration that the stipend be paid to all employees "instead of just limiting to what the governor wants to pay," said Finance Director Liz Domite. Landry's order excludes employees who don't "necessarily have a classroom attached

NCHS: The injury-riddled Chiefs have been competitive in two district losses, to Airline and Captain Shreve. The 32-29 loss to Airline provides an encouraging point of reference since the Vikings throttled Benton, tonight’s NCHS opponent, 57-38 earlier this month a week after holding off NCHS.
