Emporia State breaks ground on nursing, wellness facility

EMPORIA, Kan. (KSNW) — A new building is in the works at Emporia State University.

The school broke ground Wednesday on a nursing and student wellness facility. It will have training labs and simulation rooms, as well as provide health care and counseling services for students.

The facility is the first new building at Emporia State in 45 years and was funded by a $5 million gift from the Sunderland Foundation.

A news release sent in July 2023 says the building will be 32,000 square feet.

The nursing side of the building will allow for new classroom space, study space, hospital simulation rooms, and a multipurpose room equipped with a kitchen for teaching students how to cook healthier meals.

Additionally, the news release says the facility will be an ideal space for an outreach center for K-12 students.

The building will be set in the heart of the Emporia State campus, replacing Central Morse Hall. Construction is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2024.
